About Arcane Valors
Arcane Valors is a small independent index of hotels, organised around four categories: art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels. Four properties sit in each. That number is deliberate — it is small enough that every entry can be written properly, and large enough to show how differently the same idea gets built in different places.
Why these four categories
They are the four cases where the category tells you something real about the stay. A city hotel described as "boutique" or "luxury" tells you almost nothing; a capsule hotel tells you the room is a berth, an ice hotel tells you the walls will melt, a casino hotel tells you the building runs on a timetable that does not stop at midnight, and an art hotel tells you somebody spent money on the walls before they spent it on the beds. Each of those changes what you should expect.
How entries are written
Everything here is prose, written to be read rather than scanned. We describe the setting, what makes a property distinct, and what staying there is actually like. We avoid precise numbers — room counts, prices, opening hours — because they date faster than the writing does and because a figure copied from a press release is not knowledge. Where an ice hotel is concerned, even the building itself changes from one winter to the next.
What this site is not
- It is not a booking site. There is no reservation system here and no basket.
- It does not carry reviews, star ratings or scores, and it does not publish user submissions as reviews.
- It is not paid for by the hotels. Nobody buys a listing, and no entry is an advertisement.
- It is not a national guide. The properties are spread across several continents, and no country is treated as the default.
Corrections
If something here is wrong — a hotel has closed, changed hands, or been rebuilt into something else — we would rather hear about it than leave it standing. The contact page explains how to reach us.
